What is digital minimalism and how do I practice it?

Use technology intentionally to support your deepest values rather than passively consuming whatever algorithms serve you.

Digital minimalism is a philosophy that emphasizes intentional technology use aligned with your deepest values, rather than passive consumption driven by default settings and manipulative design. It asks: What do I truly gain from each digital tool, and is that gain worth the attention and time it costs?

Start by identifying your core values and the activities that genuinely matter to you. Then audit each app and digital habit against these values. Many things we do online feel important in the moment but contribute nothing lasting.

Consider a 30-day digital declutter: remove all optional technologies, then reintroduce only those that clearly serve your values. The goal isn't technological abstinence but a transformed relationship where technology amplifies what matters rather than distracting from it.
