About Moment

What is Moment?

Moment is a screen time happiness app that helps you reduce mindless scrolling, focus better, and build healthier habits with your devices. It combines app and website blockers, daily mood tracking, and science-backed tips so you can take control of your digital life.

Moment runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro, and is made by Jan and Kerstin at Meaningful Things.

What does “screen time happiness” mean?

Screen time happiness is the idea that the goal isn’t just less time on your phone — it’s a better relationship with your devices. Some screen time lifts you up: a video call with a friend, learning something new. Some leaves you drained: an hour lost to short videos.

Moment helps you tell the difference, so you can spend more time on what actually feels good. See how it works.

Who is Moment for?

Anyone who wants more intention and less autopilot in how they use their phone. That includes:

  • People who feel anxious about how much they scroll
  • Knowledge workers who want fewer interruptions
  • Parents looking to model healthier phone habits
  • Students protecting their focus and sleep
  • Anyone going through a phone detox who wants tools that actually hold

You don’t need to be hardcore about it. Moment is gentle, not punishing.

How is Moment different from Apple’s built-in Screen Time?

Apple’s Screen Time shows you how much you use your apps and lets you set basic limits — but those limits are easy to bypass, and there’s no link to how your usage actually makes you feel.

Moment adds three things Apple’s built-in tools don’t focus on:

  • Reflection. Daily mood check-ins so you see how your screen time correlates with how you feel.
  • Stronger limits. Strict Mode blockers that you can’t quickly disable when you’re tempted.
  • Guidance. 30+ science-backed tips for lasting habit change, not just data.

You can use both. Moment uses Apple’s Family Controls under the hood, so it works alongside Screen Time, not against it.

Devices and platforms

What devices does Moment work on?

Moment runs on every Apple device, with the latest OS versions:

  • iPhone — iOS 26
  • iPad — iPadOS 26
  • Mac — macOS 26 (companion app)
  • Apple Watch — watchOS 26
  • Apple Vision Pro — visionOS 26 (companion app)

You can set up and use blockers on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. On Mac and Apple Vision Pro, Moment is a companion app — you’ll see your active blockers from your iPhone or iPad, with full access to mood tracking, tips, and iCloud sync. Blocker enforcement on these platforms happens through your iPhone or iPad.

One subscription unlocks the app on all your devices.

Does Moment sync across my devices?

Yes. Your blockers, mood entries, and tip progress sync automatically through your own iCloud, encrypted by Apple. No Moment server is involved. More on how this works.

Do I need a separate subscription for each device?

No. One Moment Pro subscription works across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro at no extra cost.

Does Moment work on Apple Watch?

Yes. The Apple Watch app on watchOS 26 lets you start and stop blockers right from your wrist, log your mood with one tap, and see your active blocker on a complication for any watch face.

Does Moment work on Mac?

Yes — Moment runs on macOS 26 as a companion app. You’ll see your active blockers, log your mood, browse tips, and stay synced with your other devices. Blocker enforcement happens on your iPhone or iPad. The Mac app is great for setting things up on a bigger screen and reviewing your screen time happiness.

Does Moment work on Apple Vision Pro?

Yes — Moment runs on visionOS 26 as a companion app. You can see your active blockers, log your mood, browse tips, and access your synced data in spatial computing. Blocker enforcement happens on your iPhone or iPad.

Blockers

How do blockers work in Moment?

A blocker is a rule you set up that limits which apps and websites you can open. When a blocker is active, opening a blocked app shows a screen reminding you why you set the limit — and Moment can suggest something better to do instead.

Blockers can be scheduled (run automatically on the days and times you choose, like every weekday from 9 AM to 12 PM) or on-demand (you start them in the moment, with a 15-minute minimum).

Can I block websites, not just apps?

Yes. You can block individual websites by URL pattern alongside or instead of native apps. For example, you can block instagram.com while you’re working.

What’s the difference between scheduled and on-demand blockers?

  • Scheduled blockers run on a recurring weekday and time pattern. Set them once and they activate automatically — perfect for protected work hours, family dinners, or wind-down before bed.
  • On-demand blockers are one-shot. You start them when you need a moment of focus, with a 15-minute minimum, and Moment ends them when the timer’s up.

What is Strict Mode?

Strict Mode is a setting on any blocker that prevents you from quickly turning it off in a moment of weakness. Once a Strict Mode blocker starts, it stays on until the scheduled end — no quick disable, no five-more-minutes. It’s the difference between a soft suggestion and a real boundary you’ve made with yourself.

Can I bypass a Strict Mode blocker?

That’s the point — you can’t bypass it on a whim. Strict Mode is designed to defeat the in-the-moment urge that gets between you and your intentions. The friction is real, and that’s what makes it work.

How many blockers can I create?

On the free tier, you can create one blocker. Moment Pro unlocks unlimited blockers, so you can have separate setups for deep work, family time, sleep, weekends, or anything else.

Does Moment use Apple’s Family Controls?

Yes. Moment uses Apple’s official Family Controls framework to block apps. This is the same system Apple’s Screen Time uses, so it’s the most reliable, secure way to enforce limits. The first time you set up a blocker, Moment will ask for the permission this requires.

Screen time happiness

What is the daily mood check-in?

Once a day, Moment asks how you feel about your screen time today — a quick one-tap rating. You can optionally add reasons (e.g. doomscrolling, FOMO, felt connected, achieved my goals) so you build a richer record of how today felt and why. Over time, your entries form a personal log you can revisit any time.

How does mood tracking actually help me?

Mood tracking turns your screen time into something you can actually reflect on. By logging how you feel each day and tagging the reasons yourself, you build a personal record over time. Looking back at your own entries helps you spot patterns and decide what to change. It’s a tool for self-reflection, not algorithmic analysis — the moods are yours to interpret.

What are offline alternatives?

Moment ships with a library of 40+ small offline activities — walk, read, call a friend, breathe — that you can browse any time. You can also add your own. The idea isn’t “do nothing instead”; it’s “do something that actually feels good.”

Privacy and data

Where is my data stored?

Your data lives on your devices and in your own iCloud — never on a Moment server. We don’t have access to it because there’s nothing to access.

Does Moment use analytics or tracking?

No. Moment doesn’t use any analytics service, tracking SDK, or third-party data collection. We don’t know how often you open the app, what you block, or how you feel. That’s by design.

Does Moment send my data anywhere?

Only to your own iCloud account, encrypted by Apple. Sync happens directly between your devices through Apple’s infrastructure. There is no Moment cloud, no Moment server, no analytics endpoint.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Moment lets you export your blockers, mood entries, and tip progress at any time, so you always own your information.

Can I delete all my data?

Yes. There’s a delete-all-data option in settings that wipes everything from your devices and iCloud. Once it’s gone, it’s gone — there’s no copy with us.

Is my mood data private?

Particularly so. Mood is sensitive — we treat it that way. Mood entries never leave your devices except through your encrypted iCloud sync. We don’t see it, can’t see it, and don’t want to.

Pricing

Is Moment free?

Yes — the basic version of Moment is free to download and use. You can create one blocker, log your mood, and read curated tips at no cost.

What does Moment Pro include?

Moment Pro unlocks unlimited blockers, the full screen time happiness analytics, advanced features, and full access on every device — iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro — for one subscription. See the App Store for current pricing.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — Moment Pro includes a free trial so you can try the full experience before subscribing. See the App Store for current details.

Does my Pro subscription work on all my Apple devices?

Yes. One subscription covers iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro at no extra charge.

Widgets, Live Activities, and more

Does Moment have widgets?

Yes — for every widget surface and size:

  • Home Screen widgets in small, medium, and large
  • Lock Screen widgets (rectangular, circular, inline)
  • Control Center quick actions to start a blocker or log mood
  • Apple Watch complications for every watch face

Does Moment support Live Activities?

Yes. When a blocker is running, you’ll see a live timer on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, so you always know what’s active and how long is left.

Can I use Siri or Shortcuts with Moment?

Yes. Moment supports App Intents for Siri Shortcuts: start or stop a blocker, log your mood, or get a quick summary — all by voice or as part of a Shortcuts automation.

Can I share Moment with friends and family?

Yes — through the iMessage extension, you can let friends and family know about your upcoming blockers and when you’ll be available again, right inside the Messages app.

Account and support

Do I need an account to use Moment?

No. Moment doesn’t have user accounts. Your data syncs through your own iCloud, so you sign in once to your Apple ID — which you already have — and that’s it.
